View Full Version : CS:Source Random Pause?

Mr. Baggins
I keep getting randomly paused once in a while and i cant unpause it or move until i re-join the server. i've asked like 50 ppl and they dont know what it is and i've done everything i can think of to fix it. i've got an Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 with 256mb of ddr . idk what else it has cuase it was packaged wrong so i have a 5200 box. and i've got a 2.66ghz pent.4 with 512mb ddr. onboard 5.1 audio. i know it's not the hottest setup but it's enough to run source. and i have two seagates striped on raid. 2mb cache at 5400rpm's. so yea.. how do i stop that pausing crap?

Well all that I can tell is that your 512 system ram is a little bit low. I have 512 and it gets choppy for about a minute after a map loads while it is going through the ram. But it could also be your hard drive speed being that they are only 5400's.

Does the pausing happen when you play HL2?

512MB of RAM should be sufficient to run Source although I would recommend 1GB. Make sure to turn off any programs that are running in the background so that source can use more memory. You could also try adding "-heapsize 256000" to your command line to allocate more memory to Source.

Make sure the sound quality is set to low since you're using onboard sound, that should minimize the hit to the CPU.
