i downloaded and installed CS V1.6 NON STEAM. the game loaded fine, and under the "new game" option, i can play. however, when i try to join a server, an error box comes up which reads "LAN servers restricted to local clients (Code C).

any idea what this means? :confused:

It means you're trying to join a LAN (local area network) server. Look for a public server and you should be set.


ps - upgrade to Source and play on CSGZ

im sorry for being such a NoOb, but ive spent the last 8 months in Iraq, and now that im back in the states, i would like to get back into CS....

it means get counter strike source....a new computer with a good video card and play Source on their server.

thanks for the warm welcome! i have a comp that can handle CS. thats not the problem. is there anyway i can run my downloaded version on CS1.6 NON STEAM? like i said, it wont let me join any server...

Dont know much about NON-STEAM... But go to www.steampowered.com to get the steam installer. That is all I can help you with. :confused:

Plus Source is the newest version of Counter Strike. Its kinda pimp.

I don't think there's anyway in which you can play a non-Steam version of 1.6 anywhere on the web. Steam is free so why wouldn't you want to play a steam version of 1.6? O_o

While you comp may be able to run 1.6 fine, CS Source is much tougher beast. Graphically Source (CS:S) is a much prettier but probably the most notable improvement is in the physics of the game where it employs 'rag-doll' physics, meaning that there are no more scripted death animations! If you kill someone they collapse in a more 'realistic' way and their dead bodies can be posed in interesting ways with a few well placed shots. Walls are really walls and bullets do not penetrate them as easily as in 1.6. You should try it if you can, takes a bit of getting used to but I have to say it's well worth it.

actually there are running versions of 1.3 and 1.5...you just got to find them
