View Full Version : Home File Server?

Mr.
Anyone know any good links or articles about how to make/setup an old computer as a file server in your home?

What are the specs of the machine you're going to be working with?

RS can do this kind of shit in his sleep:D

Hey - I happen to be sleeping right now!!!!!!!! lol

1) get computer
2) Create your shared directory
3) map client machines to the share.
4) put your crap (files) on the server.
5) share your files.

Now if you are talking FTP server. Thats another process.... ;)

You are scaring me MR.
You can set up one hell of a CS server but you can't figure this one out?

Mr.
Running the CS Server is not a problem. I was looking at some sites for info on what to do but there were a lot of complicated answers.

What you said sounds very easy.

Eye: The machine will be very basic, just one of my old computers, not very high spec at all, but I'm guessing I don't need much computing power just a lot of RAM and disc space.

RS is right...

If the box is just going to be sitting there, doing nothing but storing files, you may be able to get away with a little ram (i'm thinking 128 MB with Win9X, 256 MB or more for Win2k and up).
