View Full Version : Annoying as all hell

Hey, I just joined but this isn't the first forum I've ever been to. Anyways, I'm having trouble with CS 1.6. I manage to join games but I can only play a few rounds (if I get lucky) before it takes me back to the menu screen. It doesn't even tell me that i've been kicked/banned/disconnected. All it does is take me back to the menu screen. It's really beginning to piss me off!
My computer isn't the best but my brothers was worse than mine and it ran fine on his (even when he had 16 viruses raping his computer), so I don't understand why it might be doing this. I have Steam but I play on my friends account because he has my CD key. I also have X-Fire. Even before I got X-Fire this was happening so I know it's not that.
Do you any of you know what's happening? I posted this on another forum but nobody has responded. :(
Mr.
Unfortunately I haven't played 1.6 in months. Does your friend use steam as well? It could be that he/she is logging on and kicking you from the system since you can't play two instances of steam at the same time.
Does this happen on all servers or are you playing on a particular server?
Have you made sure all your drivers are up to date?

He told me that he doesn't play 1.6 much anymore, so I doubt he'd be on alot. And I am getting kicked from all servers, not just one. And I'm not to sure if my drivers are up to date.

Does he play any steam games? You can only have one logon location at one time for Steam. So for instance if you're playing 1.6 and then he decided to play CS:S or DoD or any other steam game that is played online then you will be kicked.
However it sounds like more of a problem with getting the game to play rather than Steam issues. What is your VAC status standing? (Steam > Settings > Account) There were several issues with drivers a while ago, but that was mainly for CS:S and Nvidia-based cards.
You could try reinstalling steam in case the update corrupted some files.

My VAC status is "In good standing."
If I were to reinstall it, wouldn't I have to uninstall it first? I don't wanna do that...
Quick question. Since he is using my CS 1.6 CD key, if he uninstalled the game on his computer, wouldn't that allow me to use my own key again?
Mr.
If you reinstalled it, yes, you would have to first uninstall it. That shouldn't be too much of a problem since the core part of steam is a pretty small program. You won't have to uninstall all your games, just steam. Once you reload it it will detect your games automatically.
About the 1.6 CD key, yes. In fact you could both use it as long as you don't use it at the same time. The game keys are all joined to the same Steam account. Once the game is registered in steam as your game then you don't need the CDs anymore. For example, I went to visit a friend in DC. He wanted to check out what CS:S was about so I downloaded steam, then logged-on to my account. All my games were greyed out. I then double-clicked on CS:S and it started to download. 2 Hours later, I was able to show him CS:S. Then when I left I deleted my account, uninstalled the game, went home and logged-on from home and everything was fine.

I thought you were able to use the same steam account as long as you didnt play on the same server...
Mr.
no, you can only log in to steam from one location. So if you and a friend share an account only one of you can be online at the same time.
Haven't you ever seen people disconnected with the message "This steam account is being used in another location"?
Flitch
No, i havnt. Me and my brother used to share the same account for a bit and besides having to re-log in sometimes and not being able to be on the same server we never had a problem. Maybe they have fixed that since though...
Mr.
Were you sharing the same IP?
Flitch
No, he was up at school while i was at home.
Mr.
It's probably changed since then.
