View Full Version : Counter Strike: Source/Half Life 2 Blue Screen

I can't be the only one who gets this. Out of the blue (no pun intended) my computer screen just turns blue and the PC becomes totally unresponsive.

It only happens when I'm playing Counter Strike Source or Half Life 2...and it happens with no pattern that I can distinguish. Sometimes I've been playing for minutes, sometimes hours. Some nights it doesn't happen, some nights it does. It's not heat - I've checked that time and time again. All drivers are up to date, windows up to date, no viruses, etc, etc. Actually, HL2 & CSS are the only program I've installed the box besides the OS itself.

Anyone else get the blue screen in half life 2 or counterstrike?

NO BLUE SCREEN HERE, if this problem will repeat, I suggest redo OS and redo STEAM, but make sure that STEAM will download everything off STEAM'S server, dont save and later paste any folders. Very Clean install. Good Luck.

It does reoccur, just never at consistant intervals.

I'm actully running a fresh install of the OS and Steam. I just built the pc within the last two weeks. I think reinstalling it again will be my last option. I want to try some other stuff first and save myself the aggravation of reinstalling windows.

I had the same problem for a while too, thought it was heat, bad driver, everything. Turned out to be my on-board sound causing the problem. Installed my old SB live card and all is good.

Having dual sound devices installed was causing me problems, but not blue screen problems. I took care of the dual soundcard problems about a week or so ago.

Still dealing with this shit...just found a driver update for my 9800 pro that was posted 12/14/04. Going to give that a try.

They updated my cpu driver mid December too. I updated the video card and cpu drivers and it appears the problem is gone. Gained about 20 - 30 fps too:D
