View Full Version : Problem: game crashes
Disturbed798
im having a problem with counter-strike source. im trying to change all my video settings to low....but every time i click ok or apply the game crashes. does anyone know the problem? thanks.
Mr.
You can't change graphical settings while playing the game without it closing the game. I think they only thing you can change without the game closing is the brightness.
The best way to change it would be to start up CS:S without joining a server. Change all your settings, close, then join a server.
Flitch
Even if he does change them during game all it will do is restart and connect you back to the server you were just on...

ok...this is what i do. i open cs:s and then click options from the main menu. i switch my video settings and then clikc apply. a notice comes up that says,
Counter-Strike Source:hl.exe - Application Error
The instructions at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read.
my only option is to clikc ok and that terminates the program.
either that, or an error report pops up (those things with the send or dont send).
Mr.
Hmmmmm, could be your memory going bad. Are you overclocking at all?
Any new hardware or software installations?
You may want to re-intall CS:S, you could have some corrupted files.

i dont know what over clocking is...i dont have any new software or hardware. ive been having lots of problems with my computer lately and that might just be the problem. ill try reinstalling it. thanks.
Mr.
If you've been having lots of problems I would do a virus scan first.
Also you should screen your comp for adware. There are a couple of free programs that you can download:
Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) - just download the free one (Personal), update the definitions then use it to scan your comp
Spy-Bot S&D (http://www.spybot.com/en/index.html) - same as above, download, install, update definitions and then scan.
It's actually a good idea to have both and periodically scan your comp.
Over-clocking is messing with your system to run your CPU, GFX card, and/or memory at higher speeds/voltages to increase performance. However you can also cause your comp to over heat and crash, sometimes permanently.

i have 512 ram and 2.2 ghz. which is about the recommended (im off bye .2 ghz). my graphics card is crap tho.
[FU2]InYourEye- i went to that thread. the link in their didnt work tho. it just gave me a page could not be displayed message.
Mr.
I would still scan with ad-aware and spybot. I don't really like norton products that much since I've had problems with them before.
It could have been a virus that has compromised your Norton so you may also want to be a web-based scan just to be very safe.

ok. thanks for the advice

Dang it, that's too bad. That page was a great resource. I'll see if I can't find where it moved to.
