As for the original question my preference would be Ventrilo because it has superior voice quality over Teamspeak, however Teamspeak is free. Another nice thing is that Ventrilo also has voice announcements of people entering the channel so you know who has connected. Otherwise the features that they offer are almost identical. Just as a point of reference most league playing clans use Ventrilo.

Renting a vent server costs about $10/month for 25-slots.

You can setup your TS (Teamspeak) server for $0/month which you can host from a spare computer. I think you can have up to a maximum of 8 slots (free version).

yea i agree that vent is the best. teamspeak would come in second. i have never tried xfire for voice communication but it is a nice friend finder and another program kinda like hlsw. and i really dont like gamespy sense most of their stuff sucks.

how about just using the speach communication that is built in to the game? Thats all I use. Before it was built in to the game we used to use roger wilco. When did gamespy take over???? Madness. I still don't understand why you need it unless you need to ghost etc....
