breakdown. p4 2.8gh ht, ati radeon 9600xt 128. 1g ram 300gb hd. used this computer before for cs:source no problem. formated it installed it again game runs smooth as before but my models eg. terrorist and ct units have spiking things coming out of them. vertical and horizontal lines coming out of the whole unit. dont know what is wrong. anyone else experience this problem?

things i have done:
re-installed video drivers
downloaded newest drivers
messed around with settings, tried lowest = no diff.
any other ideas?

this game came with the video card so its bs if it doesnt work it well.

Mr.
Do you have a screenshot? I think I know what you mean but I haven't heard of anything like that for a long time. I'm pretty sure it was driver related if I remember correctly. I have pretty much the same setup as you except I have an x800gt and my 2.4c is o/c to 2.9.

Source is optimized for ATI cards so it should perform fine.

Has anyone else used your comp?

that is pretty ****ed up, have u tried reinstalling cs?

funkeemonkey
yes i have... it runs smooth and no problems except that!!!

Thats pretty shitty... I know you have to have DirectX9 inorder for CS:S to work but make sure u have 9.Oc just in case. You could also try the Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/main.php) and see if that helps your situation.

Mr.
Actually you don't have to have directx 9 to run cs:s. You can actually force it to run in 8 or 7.
Added to command line:
-dxlevel 70
-dxlevel 80
-dxlevel 81

By default it's set to -dxlevel 90. Although I've run in all those modes and never saw it do that to my gun models. I think the CS install is fine, looks more like a graphical driver issue. Uninstall, clean, and reinstall your vid card drivers would by suggestion. Omegadrivers are a good set of drivers and ones that I currently use.

Tr32k
I just recently did a fresh install of XP on my machine and CS:S wouldn't run until I installed DX9. So you can run in those lower modes but you still need DX9 to play.

I would uninstall the graphic drivers and re-install them again...or at the very least, update drivers to the latest version.

If this doesn't work, at least you've eliminated them as the culprit.

funkeemonkey
ive already done that.
things ive done:
reinstalled drivers, downloaded newest version
made settings all low, all high etc. tried different combinations.
reinstalled cs, that was not the issue.
i have DX9c installed

Flitch
your shit out of luck son...

Shimpi
Well, it sounds like you eliminated all software related problems. The only thing I can think of is a bad graphics card. Have you tried the graphics card in another PC?

funkeemonkey
hahaha you know what i tell you guys its stupid, i fixed it.

installed the drives that came with the card and now it works fine. but now i want to know why the new drivers make the video mess up like that?

any ideas?

Mr.
Which card make do you have?

I was under the impression that ATI drivers were unified but not so sure of nVidia.

Must be something peculiar to the drivers for that company that makes it behave like that. I hope they're good about keeping up to date with newest drivers.
