View Full Version : Server list updating very slowly
datonguy
I have two computers hooked up to a network, both fairly new, all drivers up to date and both run smoothly. On one computer I launch CS:S and the server list updates very quickly and within a minute or two I have 10,000 or more servers to chose from, however on the other computer if I launch CS:S and update a server list it takes me at least 8-10 minutes to get 1,500 servers, and it stops at that amount. Both of the filters are the same and both are on the broadband connection. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it thanks.

What kind of router are you using? Maybe it's limiting the flow to the second computer in some way?

The router is a linksys, the router is not the problem, i've tried hooking the computer up to the cable modem directly and get the same results.

Well, unless you give us more information, we will all be chasing our tails speculating on the problem. For example, are both PC's identical? For each PC, are you using Network interface cards to connect to your router or are you using the network connection that is integrated into the motherboard?
Here are some things to check for on your own:
1) Are you sure the slower PC is connecting at 100Mbps?
2) Do you have a lot of applications running in the background that is taking up CPU/memory resources? (hint: if you have a lot of tiny icons by the clock on the lower right hand corner of your screen...WARNING!)
3) Are you sure you do not have a lot of undetected spyware that also takes up CPU/memory resource and bandwidth?
4) Are you sure the network connection on the slower PC is not using additional protocols that might be generating additional and usually unnecessary network traffic?
5) Are you sure you are using Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6 network cables on both PC's?
6) If you are using the integrated network connections for both PC's --and if motherboards of both PC's have different chipsets, are you sure the BIOS and various motherboard drivers are up to date?
Hmm...I'm drawing a blank...I guess that is all I can think of for now.
