View Full Version : CSGamezone: T1 In-house for $500 mo?

You know...every Tom, Dick and Harry is paying monthly for some business to host their game server. The other Tom, Dick and Harry's are paying for some business to host their domains and webservers.

Why can't the owners have their own T1 and sell those services to those Tom, Dick and Harry's?

I saw a Covad product page list a 1.5 Mbps T1 service to be as low as $500 per month (w/ 1 yr contract. $460 with a 2 yr. contract. I guess a router and CSU/DSU would need to be purchased, servers would need to be purchased, but in return --I wonder how much revenue can be generated from hosting things like domains/gameservers and if said revenues would surpass the monthly expenses of the T1 service and servers....

Ever wonder?

Well...I'm wondering now. Below is the link to that covad page.

Mr.
I think the term for that is co-locating.

The cost goes up a little more when you add in the cost of the hardware for the game server. That shouldn't be as much as for hosting webpages since storage is very cheap these days.

The web hosting business is next to impossible to make any $ in nowadays. A lot companies use it as a loss leader. I rent a few servers (or semi dedicated). $40/month for 20GB of space and 200GB bandwidth is not unusual. That comes with master cpanel account, i can setup unlimited accounts/domains, etc, etc.

Reselling game hosting....that I'm not really sure about. I suppose the kicker there would be support. If you don't provide it people will go elsewhere - gamers can be picky.

Soldat
that is true... almost have to set it up to be your fulltime job if your gunna be serious about it. well that is to be a great host.
