View Full Version : CS:S randomly crashes

Xolso
Hey, so recently I started to play Counter-Stike: Source with my bro. But, there's one problem, I crash while playing it, and he never crashes at all. Don't know why, just happens. We use skype to talk to eachother while playing. I'm not sure if skype is making it crash, because I THINK, it did crash while I was playing alone, with skype off, but I will make sure. Also, I have a dual-core processor, which usually messes up alot of my games, but I turn one off, before playing. I can play hours with him with no problems at all. The way it will crash is that it will freeze for a short time, then my screen will go black, and the will be a error, error report thing. Another one is that it will freeze, then go to the bsof( Blue Screen of Death), which really scares me. Every other hl2 mod/game works fine. Anyways, any suggestions, or ideas would be so helpful. Well, here are my specs...

Yeah, just played it without skype on, it did crash, didn't take long at all

BTW, I seriously don't think its my comp specs....their pretty good, and I can't post the dxdiag because its too long

Mr.
I doubt it's skype since I have that running on my machine when I play games.

What does the error message say when it crashes?

Well, I THINK, it said, "hl2 has encountered a problem and needed to shut down", not sure, something like that, anyways, my drivers weren't up to date, but were close, so I don't think thats the problem...

Mr.
you never know, you should always run the latest release of gfx drivers.

I experienced some crashing that stemmed from chats and invites from friends(Steam) I just told them to stop and all has been good.

Glad to hear it. Some programs will crash CS:S due to pop-ups that minimise the game so it's best not to run anything else while playing.

If you need a free voice chat program then download xfire, it possesses it's own voice chat software but I find it's very quiet. It's also a great program for communicating with online friends, who also use xfire, and does a great job of keeping server lists and favourites.
