View Full Version : laptop

Flitch
my gf just got a new laptop for graduation. (I dont like dell but i wasnt the one buying it) I bought her CS for it and i noticed that when she was playing her FPS were inconsistent ranging from 20-70. I'm not sure of the exact specs since i dont have it wiht me right now but it should be able to handle it. Anybody have any ideas?

Mr.
Her gfx card is probably a little weak in combination with her cpu, I bet it drops when there are instense firefights. Just config it and it'll be fine.

You should know to post specs by now, geez. :P

Flitch
i can post them if i had them.

What do you mean by config it?

Veritech
lower the rez and graphics quality levels and the fps should pick up, or get more ram could be swapping stuff out to the HD

Mr.
Is this for 1.6 or Source? If it's for Source try Casey's config on the CAL forums. It's an autoexec file with a lot of graphical settings placed on low. Should help to give more consistent fps. If it's for 1.6 then I'll have to root around my HD for my old config although I have a feeling I trashed it since I upgraded my gfx card.

OMG Dave's still alive! :P

Flitch
its 1.6 and ive tried differetn resolutions and graphical modes. I guess what I was wondering is there anything that I can change in the actualy graphic card settings to make it run better or no?

Veritech
yes I'm alive, I had to come back out of my cave for a bit. get the system specs for said laptop and I could help you more, instead of just giving general advise. If it has intel graphics you're SOL for good gameplay, but ati or nvidia we can get some tips. Also if it uses shared mem from system ram that can cause slow fps also.

*glances back at his cave...*

Dr. BIO
yeah....if it's a share...I guess the only way would be up the system RAM...or tweak the RAM timings which probably isn't possible on a Dell Laptop anyhoo.

Even if you can tell us the model of Dell...it might give a clue as to the system specs.

*SNIFF* Where is that SMELL coming from....

*Looks towards Veritech's "cave"*

Veritech
smell? well caves don't have plumbing...
I guess you get used to it after awhile, any one got a high presure washing system?

Mr.
Is that the technical term for a "hose"? O_o

Dr. BIO
WOW....just a hose won't cut that stench.

Where's the bleach?

Soldat
haha veri is here woohoo... and flitch i cant even compare to the smarts of these guys so im not gunna try to give ya advice. just do what al says and u should be fine.

Mr.
laff, how hard can it be to find the model number of the laptop? O_o

Apart from the system specs it would be good to know the in-game settings such as resolution and graphical quality settings.

There's a bunch of things you can try to make sure it runs smoother, unforunately it will look bad. Stuff like remove gun models, force minmodels, and the like.

Veritech
model numbers are normally on the bottem or just above the keyboard. Mr. a hose does not have enough preasure to remove the top layer of rocks to remove the stink, that is why I asked for a high preasure washing system. Hmm, I wonder if oust or frebreeze would work...

Mr.
what are you a colossus?

Veritech
I was refering to the cave walls there Mr. not my skin. But I am just a little shorter than a Colossus though.
