View Full Version : Conroe pimp slaps fx-62?
Mr.
From all the reviews I've been reading, the new "must-have" chip is the Conroe, especially the E6600 (capable of almost 70% o/c on air! O_o )
Soldat
hhmm dont know what that means at all

70% o/c on air is crazy , i wonder what liquid cooling would do, yeah my friend is overclocking my new one (amd athlon 64 3700+ 1mb cache) 2.2ghz to 2.9 ghz with air , but dam thats not even close to 70%, is that with socket AM2 and ddr2
Dr. BIO
INTEL dude...INTEL...totally different socket set.
2.9 on a 3700 is good. I've got that processor, but I JUST got it, so I'm not going to O/C it for a little while. It's fast enough stock.
I got the Thermalright 120XP (Huge motherf'ing heatsink) for this badboy...so o/c'ing should be easy.
Mr.
yeah, it's the new killer chip from intel, just released so there's very few in the shops right now but all reveiws point to it being THE chip to have.
More on the o/c : http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795&p=18
The only chip that fully supports o/c and u/c is the top of the line extreme edition that is fully unlocked but at almost $1000 that's an expensive chip. The E6600 which o/c well is only about $300+ and should o/c to 3ghz+ with a good air cooling.

This is what I was waiting for, more cores is more power, now I only have to wait until everything will be 64bit and Im ready to build my new rig.
Soldat
yea... when i decide to build a comp im just gunna have u guys tell me what to get... sounds simple enough for me.
Mr.
Yeah, it's pretty straight forward and now that you know how to install a gfx card the rest is fairly simple! Just remember to hook-in those pesky power leads! :P
MartinX: The good thing about this is even though it has more cores, the power consumption is very low, which means heat generated is very low too. Finally Intel have jumped on the AMD bandwagon and begun producing chips that are more enthusiast minded.
Mr.
More ammo for Intel:

What I like about this is that the tests are done using middle of the road CPUs and gfx cards and not the wallet-busting configurations that most test sites use.
For those wanting to build a new system soon there's also very useful information in their "test setup" section which tells you exactly which components they used to build their rigs.

Those new Intel chips do sound nice. I just wish I had the cash to build a new system.
