View Full Version : Hey (Connecting to Server)
BokBok
What stuff do I need to get connected? Do I have to download patches and just connect in the console into the IP or do I need gamespy, etc?
Thanks
[FU2]InYourEye
You can just connect right through the interface provided with HL2/CS:S. I'm pretty sure there's an option to just add a server, then add the server to your favorites list and you're set. I don't use Gamespy anymore…although I did for 1.6.
BokBok
OK, that's what I was hoping for. I remember that when Jimmy's moved (I don't remember who took it over), I had to download some crap instead of just using connect, IP stuff.
Thanks a bunch, I'll be on this evening if I can find my half-life CD and key :D
[FU2]InYourEye
Cool. I'll be on later tonight too...maybe around 9:00-10:00 central time.
Kill you later-
BokBok
Yea, I forget what I'm doing, I thought you need to download 2 big files, I'm starting from a new install.
Do you know of a site or a list of what exactly I need to do to get me going?
MartinX
www.steampowered.com will provide everything.
BokBok
Do you need to poke a hole in your firewall?
I can see the server, but it fails to connect (after downloading the steam stuff)
BokBok
Unless there's some new version of CS or something I'm missing.
Weeping_Buddha
HOLY SHIT ITS BOKBOK! Oh man, its like a time warp, i can't wait to kill yur ass in the server.

BokBok
Help me get connected and knife away :)
Weeping_Buddha
You do know that this is a source server? not 1.6 counter-strike? Not to be condescending but that might be why you cant connect. Can you connect to 64.37.227.34:27015?

BokBok
So I need to buy half-life 2?
Yea, talk to me like I'm 4 because I'm starting from scratch. I have no clue what's changed in the past 2 years
[FU2]InYourEye
Yep, you need Half Life 2. Our server is Counter-Strike Source, not Counter Strike 1.6.

I guess I get the dumbass question of the month award.

I was at Circuit City on Saturday and some guy that worked there was playing CS Source.
Holy shit. I'll be on this evening.
It's amazing they have the same maps (he was playing aztec and dust2) and the graphics are damn sweet.
I didn't feel like paying for the $80 version though.
Side note, how do you get to the stats? I remember they used to be online....
Just curious who still plays? Foolio? Grunt?
Mr.
Your best bet would be to get the 'Silver' package from the VALVE online store. It's about $50 and gives you access to HL2, Source, HL:S, and DoD:S (when it comes out) and most of the VALVE back catalogue.
I think you'll also be pleasantly surprised by HL2, it's one of the best games I've played in ages. Definately as immersive as HL when it first came out.

Look at the top of this forum when you're logged in - to the left of the "New Posts" and "News" links you'll see the "Server Stats" link.
We also have in game stats - statsme, rank, top10, etc.

The best buy place I went to had one on sale for $45
I'm assuming the silver one you are referring to is this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1056899605282&skuId=5756041&type=product
On the back it said it includes counter-strike source, so sounds like I'll be good to go.
Side note, when is the best time to play? 9p-1a?
See you on this evening as soon as my nagging wife goes to bed.

LOL same for me, just replace wife with girlfriend.

I *think* that could be the one. Just double-check the back because the basic online package, Bronze, includes HL2 and CS:S but doesn't allow you access to DoD:S, HL:S and the back catalogue. The 'Gold' plan is the same as silver but with a t-shirt or a cap or some other shite that doesn't justify the extra $20+.
Ahh, I just checked and the Silver package is $60. If you already have the other games such as CZ, OpFor, and Blue Shift then it's not really worth it unless you plan on playing DoD:S (which I think will be great).
BokBok
I basically only care about playing on here. If that silver package is what I need, then I'm good to go.
cg_
if you go to steampowered.com you can buy it online and download it. Thats were the Bronze, Silver and Gold come into play. Not sure if they had different version of the retail software for sale or not. I just got the cheap one. Who needs all that other crap anyways
[FU2]InYourEye
Downloading at Steam is the way to go.If you have a broadban connection it'll only take 30 minutes to an hour.
Mr.
There are two retail versions, which are the equivalent of the Bronze and Gold packages. I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying that the silver is the one only available online. I would recommend you getting the Silver. :D
BokBok
I got to play for a good 30 minutes last night. Holy crap, this game is pretty awesome.
It kinds sucks being rusty and going 2 for 16, but at least I killed the Hood so it was worth it.
ROB_N_HOOD
LIAR!
that never happened
