ok first off i have a athlon 2600 with radeon 9600pro 128 with only 512 drr ram

going to upgrade the ram soon i think.....

i am only gettin like 30-40 fps in the game......i do not know the commands to change some of the settings in the game

just wondering what everything should be set at.......thanx for your help whoever does help the poor canadian

Have you tried going into the video settings in Source and just dropping everything to the minimum?

no not yet......i will give that a try.......i am getting more ram this week, i do not think 512 is enough.......or is it?

so what are some of the commands in console that i should check to see what my rates are at......and what they should be set at?

i have a gig on both of my computers.. which for a non-computer person like me.. dont see the difference. Try minimizing your video settings.. maybe that will work. Or just buy a new video card..

More memory will help, but a better video cardwill give you better bang for youyr buck. Even a Radeon 9800 pro 128 will keep you above 30 - 40 fps 90% of the time. Sometimes when shit gets harry your fps will drop but for the most part you shold hover around 80 - 100 fps with the 9800 pro 128 card.

I have an XP 2600 with a radeon 9600xt on 512 pc3200.....and my CS:S is fine (but i also have everything running at minimum...

I have what buddah has, except an xp 1900, and i get about 55-60 fps on minimum settings

ok i got my pc back i have a gig of ram now........i was only running at 1.2 when i have a athlon 2600? anyways that problem is fixed.......

i played today and at high settings i had 35-55 fps

at low or mid i got 99 but it would drop to 45 sometimes........and like this i notice that i recieve a choke of 1 once in a while

i set my fps_max 101
cl_rate is 10000 i think.......not at home right now........any other rates i should change to inprove my game?

what does everyone have set in the advanced options in video settings?

nah dude... the most important part is the settings in source. Unlike 1.6 and earlier, source will change all the command line vars depending on you settings, in the video options section. Those are the only things you should have to change.

As for the choke... thats the server not your PC causing this. You will see more depending on map (cs_office gets really bad at times). This is a problem with the source code for servers, and is supposedly be worked on.

Also, I would set my max_fps higher, there is no reason to limit it. I am getting about 150 - 160 fps in confined spaces without many things on the screen.
