I'm shopping for a new laptop. Anyone have anyting good or bad to say about the brand/model they own? Suggestions?

Soldat
those new macbooks or whatever they are called are a power house. they are amazing for gaming and im sure they work great for the other meaningless stuff too.

My last two laptops have been Dell. The first lasted a little over 3 years....the second is coming up on 4 years.

I carry my laptop to and from work everyday, so it gets used and abused.

I've also seen and heard good things about toshiba laptops.

Dr, what Dells (model) do you have? I have an old school Dell that's about 3 years old but it weighs like 8 - 10 pounds. My wife mainly uses it at this point.

EYE I owned 3 laptops so far, they were all DELL.

1st. Dell Inspiorn 8200
2nd. Dell Inspiron 9200
3rd. Dell XPS M170

I had never run into any problems with mine, its great for games and entertainment (Including Porn). My next laptop will also be DELL. It also all depends how much money you can spent on the product.

Inspiron 5000 = old machine

Current: Inspiron 600m

I'm thinking I might go tablet with my next laptop...but that remains to be seen.

Thanks. Anyone have an HP laptop? They have some nice looking decent priced stuff out right now.

I know some people who just recently(christmas) purchased hp laptops and they seem very pleased. That doesn't really talk about durability and extended use though. I have always heard great things about dell laptops so I'm thinking they are pretty solid, and not too badly priced.

Are we talking bundled software along with the hardware for the money also?

I fixed about five of them , not hardware but software, the only bad think that I noticed about HP laptops is that they operate very HOT....

Do you mind asking how much you want to spend on this laptop?

Soldat
get a dell xps laptop. those are really nice from what i have heard and i like the xps line dell has. my desktop is a xps gen2 and it is very nice. i like.

$2K - $3K is what I'm thinking.

I practically live online and will use it for some gaming as well. Want something light with decent battery life and a nice size screen.

Eye, I think that you should hold on with this puchase, Nvidia 8800 just came to Dell desktops, I think its matter of 2-3 months before Dell starts offering them in their laptops. 7 series vs 8 series? First thing is that 8 series supports Directx10 which is a huge jump from DirectX9 currently in 7 series. Also 8 series improved on power from 7 series almost twice and the price difference is not big. I think if you wait you will not regret it.

I'm in no rush...will be at least 6 weeks before I order anything. With something like this I want to take my time and get something I'll have for awhile, not an expensive POS that will be outdated before it hits my doorstep.

Thanks for the suggestions so far and keep them coming.

I found a guy on Froogle selling four Sony VGN-AR290G for $400.00 a pop. Normally, they sell for 3 grand each. Dual Core, 2 GB RAM, BFD 256MB Graphic chipset. 17inch wide screen.

Basically, this is one large mofo unit that is ideal for gaming, but I wouldn't expect much battery life due to the processor and components built in.

Honestly, $400 vs $3,000 is a friggen bargain to some...but it also sounds too good to be true, unless it's a fell-off-the-back-of-the-truck special.

Anyway, this was just posted two days ago.
