Soldat
I am not sure did you noticed It has two 500GB drives and two 2x1GB memory do total is 4GB.
yea i noticed that. its pretty tight.

*DUW*KyleBraegelman
Martin's machine is what I was going to post. That machine would be able to do almost anything at an incredible framerate, not to mention the power of the e6600 processor.

MartinX
I have a question, where the **** is everyone?

Mr.
Weird, and where the hell is the post I posted here this morning?

I have the same power supply and case. The case is nice and quiet even with a couple of extra fans installed. The blue leds are a novelty as is the see through side-window.

Depending on how many drives you install the second drive fan will probably have to be removed as it gets pretty damn close to the gfx card. The case is nicely constructed and finished inside as Antec cases generally are. It's one of the new designs where the PS is mounted on the bottom of the case which can be a pain depending on where certain connections are on the mobo. The huge 120cm fan on the top is sweet and with carefull positioning of the CPU cooler you can have the hot air blown directly towards it. There's also a fan mounting on the plexiglass window directly over where the GFX card is, this fan you have to have blowing out so hot air around the GFX card is removed to the surroundings. I have all fans switched to low settings which helps to keep the case quiet. Idle temps for the cpu are 29C and system at 34C (I have a really nice Rosewill tower on my CPU) and generally this temp doesn't really increase even after playing games for a few hours. Everything is running stock at the moment since I haven't really felt a need to overclock it at the moment since all my games play really well on highest detail settings and modest resolution (1600x1200).

My build uses the E6400 which has been known to overclock very and very often reaches over 3ghz on air cooling. I only have 2gb of RAM, and even with Vista 64-bit with Aero effects enabled it's still running smooth. Recording while playing Source, I usually get above 70fps on all maps even with HDR enabled. Vista drivers are a little sketchy for nVidia but they are slowly getting better. There are still some problems with OpenGL based games like Doom3 but HL2 runs just fine.

Soldat
now i just have to hope my dad actually is going to pay for a new comp like he said he would for me when i move out of the house. plus im probably getting a new job here soon so it shouldnt take me too long to getmoney for this if he bails out onme. thx much for the help friends.

MartinX
So did you order any of the parts yet?

Soldat
So did you order any of the parts yet?
not yet... give me time im still poor atm and my dad is supposed to be getting alot of money from his old job from back pay or something. he said he was going to pay for most of it so im kinda waiting on him.

Soldat
i have a question about vista and Nvidia drivers.

what ive been hearing is that the Nvidia vid cards dont work nearly as well as the ati drivers with vista 64bit atm. so should i go with ati or just dont worry about what others say and get the Nvidia? I dont care what kind i get as long as it runs well with vista 64bit and am going to have little to no problems with it.

Flitch
ewwww visat...

Shimpi
If you have deep pockets, go with Nvidia. Otherwise, ATI.

Soldat
aight i was talking with one of my friends and he said not to even worry about a x10 vid card and just go with an x9 ati vid card and save my money for now and wait till ati and nvidia have the bugs fixed out of their x10 vid cards.

Mr.
I went with an 8800gts just because of it's power. At the time it was almost better than two ati 1950 in xfire mode and I think better than 2x 7900s.

It runs all my games fine. There was a slight issue before with some distance texturing in CS:S but that's fixed now and also some slight glitching in GW but that's also fixed.

running CS:S 16x12 with all the bells and whistles on and it stays pretty solid at 85fps (monitor refresh is at 85). I do have HDR turned off at the moment for league play but even with it on the frames were nice and solid. If anything the biggest difference is the OS. Vista drivers for any card are gonna have some problems but they're getting worked out.

The obvious answer would be to have dual boot, win xp for gaming, and vista for other stuff. To be honest I don't have any problems just running everything in vista.

MartinX

Your friend is wrong, get directx 10 video card not directx 9.

Soldat
aight well my dad should be getting the money soon. so i should be ordering all the parts soon enough. god i cant wait for this thing. going to ****in kick ass

Mr.
I would get a dx10 card. I was talking to Tom and I know he recommends just getting a dx9 card but then again he upgrades all the time. If you're more like me and don't upgrade every few months and tend to keep the same rig for a couple of years it makes more sense to get a dx10 card now for future games. The nVidia 8800 cards are monsters and my GTS (320mb ram) is fine for everything I've thrown at it. Admittedly I don't run at insane resolutions but I do have all the eye candy turned on and the frames are smooth. In addition I also have a spare x16 PCI-E slot in case I want to SLI it in future (if you get the Antec True Power you'll have an extra power lead for a second card so you'll be future-proofed if you want to SLI).

Soldat
kk i believe this is the setup im going to be getting when i do get this computer. i took out one of the 500gb hd because i can always buy that later by myself or just get an external hd.

not being able to edit is lame after 30 min...

i would rather go with ati if im going x10 because they are supposed to perform much better, but x10 cards still have bugs in them so im not sure if i wanna spend 50 to 100 dollars more on a dx10 card when i could get a really nice x9 card and sell it on ebay later and buy a x10 card when they have little to no bugs at all.

probably the vid card im going to get if i go ati dx10. ive read a few reviews and almost every review is saying that the ati cards are performing way better than the Nvidia 8800GTS 640 ones.

aight i added up the cost of everything once more and it came out to be

1365.92

now if i go with the ati dx9 card you can subtract 140 dollars from that total.

that is with the ati vid card and the first power supply in my other post. leaves me some money to buy vista-64bit
