Being a geek is cool. There is no other way to put it. As a geek, you learn to love technology, respect it, appreciate it. As a result, you learn to love, respect, and appreciate the things you can do with it. The next technological example I am about to share with you, reinforces why I love it so much.
What if I tell you it is possible to use a regular XP personal computer, to share video, photos and music, with your Xbox 360? That you don’t need a PC with Window’s Media Center Operating system?
Well now you can smile, because you can, but you need specific ingredients to make it happen.
* You will need a PC with XP and Service Pack 2.
* You will need Microsoft’s Medial Player version 11.
* Your Xbox 360 needs to be connected to your home network, and…so does the PC you will use to stream the media.
You follow these steps:
1) On your PC, open Microsoft Medial Player version 11, and update it by clicking Help, and Check for Updates.
2) Click Library, then Media Sharing.
3) Put a check in the Share My Media box, then click the OK button.
4) The dialogue box will change and you will get a new dialog box that displays your Xbox 360. Click it and then click the Allow button, then click the OK button.
5) On your Xbox 360, select the Xbox dash board.
6) Then navigate to the Media menu
7) Select Video
8) Then Change Video Source
9) Your PC will appear on the list, so select it.
10) Assuming you properly set up the library your videos are located in, you can then navigate to the proper folder and select your video of choice to play.
But what if you have a PC with Windows 2000? Unfortunately, this approach won't work. Microsoft's last media player for Windows 2000 was Version 9 or 10. But, do not dispair. There is still hope. Download Tversity (its free). Install it on your Windows 2000 PC, and accept all the default settings. Once you install everything, and properly configure the pathway to the folders where your media is, Xbox 360 will see your Windows 2000 box.
Good luck! Happy sharing!
