Yo, I was checking out the MAWG forum and noticed it is running phpbb 2.0.10. You guys really need to get that thing updated ASAP. If you want a sample of why..... back up you database...... I can crash your forum in a minute. It happened to one of my other sites where I use phpbb. Been messing with phpbb for a couple of years now. If you guys need any help, let me know.

SO are you saying that php looks and works better than vBulletin ??? I like MAWG site new look, brushed aluminium looks pretty cool, there are also many good looking skins on php main site.

I like phpbb better than vbulletin myself, although there are some nice features this forum has that I never tried with my phpbb forums.
But you really really really need to move to 2.0.11 because there are some bugs that can be exploited.
It's very easy to do with easymod if you're using it.

uhhhhhh 2.0.13 and place password protection on the Admin directory. The look is only a skin. There are thousands of them for free.
Also check out phbbbhacks.com for some good mods. There are many you should be using.
PHPBB vs Vbulletin -
PHPBB is free and open source . It tends to be exploited much more.
Vbulletin has a lot of really cool functionality built in out of the box. You can get most of these by modding the PHPBB.

From an administration/admin point of view vBulletin absolutely crushes phpbb. The features available to a vBulletin admin are incredible. In terms of hacking/modding - vBulletin wins here too. It's easier, and the hacks tend to be more stable.
From a user point of view there's a not a huge difference. vBulletin tends to run a little slower (more overhead) although it's usually only noticeable to people on a dial up connection. There are a lot of great user features in vBulletin that most people never use.
Security/stability...vBulletin wins here hands down. phpbb is a security wreck in comparison. vBulletin should be better in this aspect though - it's $160 vs phpbb which is free.
My absolute favorite vBulletin feature is "Tachy Goes Coventry". If an admin puts a member in this "class" no one else on the forum knows they exist anymore. All of their posts are invisible, PM's don't work and they won't show up as "online" in the list of the bottom of the forum. What's really funny is that to the member who's been put in the "Tachy Goes Coventry" class everything appears normal. They are completely invisible to the other members but they don't know it. Eventually they just go away because they think everyone is ignoring them:)

Is Flitch a part of "Tachy Goes Coventry" ??? I think he should be.

Nope, it hasn't been used on anyone here....yet;)

i agree with Eye vb kicks ass, i used to run a big board for polaks hehe, over 2000 users. My favorite mod for vb was the arcade mod. But then ppl played flash games and didnt post much. I would never go with phpbb, doesnt look professional and admin options are the best.
