View Full Version : CS:S in Linux...hmmmm

[FU2]Gnome of Death
Here is my idea. I want to run linux on my system but I still want to play CS. I think I am going to try and install WinXP in a Linux shell using WinLin or something like that. All my hardware manufactors have linux drivers out for me. I just wonder if anyone has ever tried this. I can already do it with Win98, I just haven't tried to install steam on it....shitty vid card, not even 3D capable. So maybe the adventure begins, most likey a fun filled Saturday night. Let me know if u guys have any opinions or ideas.

all i got to say is....GOOD LUCK!

update...the current Win4Lin program supports DX 8.0a and only 95, 98, and Me. So XP is out, just waiting for an e-mail from netravese to confirm this.

Why Linux? are you bored with XP? Sounds like an interesting project but I personaly stay away from anything that is not windows.

There may also be problems with running windows emulators on linux with VAC2 (whenever it comes out).

Yea, I am running into some road blocks. The current Win4Lin version won't recognize your 3D hardware. So if a game requires that you have one it might not run, or it may, you just don't know. Martin, the reason is the file system that Windows uses is very slow and poorly managed. You can run Windows twice as fast inside a Linux shell because it uses the Linux file system.
