The Counter-Strike team was formed by Minh Le ("Gooseman") and Jess Cliffe ("cliffe") in 1999. Counter-Strike Beta 1.0 was released in June of that year, followed by a relatively quick succession of beta releases (by the end of 1999, beta 5.0 had been released). CS gained in popularity just as rapidly. The Counter-Strike team joined Valve to turn the fan-created mod into an official mod for Half-Life. In November 2000, Counter-Strike 1.0 -- the first non-beta, official retail version of the game -- was released. A long-awaited single-player version of the game called Counter-Strike: Condition Zero is due for release in 2004. I'm almost positive I played cs beta 1.0.

yeah that's about right... beta 1 was about 5 months after HL first came out... which would put it right about June... I think that HL came out in November of '98... Just in time for the holiday season...

the first time I installed cs, I had to install the beta one full install, then do an upgrade to beta 1.something... So I don't think I ever played beta 1.0... I started on 1.something...

either way, it's been a long damn time...
