View Full Version : Inferno & Port Out Tonight!

We need some new maps...

You'll see this when you open steam:

This evening we're planning for a major release of two new Counter-Strike: Source maps, along with a number of smaller changes to the game. This will be a fairly large download, so it might take a while for you to get all of the new content downloaded. It should be worth the wait.

The first of the two maps we'll be adding is a brand new design named de_port, which focuses on giving the two teams a number of initial routes to take in a bomb/diffuse scenario. A couple of weeks ago we sketched out some of our intentions with the map layout, which you can go back and check out here (http://steampowered.com/games/css/strategy/).

The second map we'll be adding to the rotation is a remade de_inferno. As part of our effort to give the community more insight into what we're doing here at Valve, we thought people might find it interesting to see how a map changes over its development cycle. To that end, we've put together a set of screenshots that were taken once each day during de_inferno's development, taken from a variety of camera angles around the map. i played de_port on a different server today and it was pretty fun.

de_port is fun, but there's just way too many ways for the T's to go. I was on the CTs, and we constantly got creamed because the T's could easily outmaneuver us. I get the feeling it's a T-sided map, and for more reasons than just that.

Oh, I also want to add: new CT models blow. I didn't like the old ones with their "I'm wearing reflectors so I don't get hit by cars while I'm biking at night" kevlar vests, but the new ones are silly. Very bottom heavy; the legs are totally out of proportion with the torso and arms. When they run, they look like they're prancing, too. No one prances into combat.

I find that most of the CS models are unproportianal... Why is that?

Also, I noticed that HL2DM ragdolls move more smoothly than the CSS ragdolls... Why is that? Aren't they using the same engine and whatnot?

Yeah the models are unproportional, the hosties are taller than the ct's and t's. And I have noticed that the ragdolls don't move as smoothly as the HL2 ragdolls, and yes they should be using the same engine!

T's can get to both spots pretty quick. But so can the CTs imo. Ive played both sides of port and i find it a bit faster to the Oil tanks as opposed to the Boat. Cts can get to the Oil tanks faster though. I could be up on the top of the tower before the T's could get down the middle if i spawned in the right spot

I like the remakes of them both. Though inferno does seem to lag a bit cus of all the textures
