And no, I don't mean Soldat's problem getting choked by his pimp.
Was playing on the server last night around 10/10:30pm. Things were doing fine on cobble, then the server switched to office. I was fine for about 10min, then suddenly my choke shot from 0-50 or so at the start of every round. I noticed the choke hovered around 3-4 until I took my rifle out, then it skyrocketed. After office it switched to dust2, and I just had a constant choke of 5-10.
Now this is a fresh install of CS:S, so I haven't messed with my rates. I'm also on a cable connection. I don't think I changed my rates in my last install of CS:S, and I wasn't experiencing problems before last night. I thought I'd post this here to see if anyone else was having the same issue; I know I saw zkz say he was in another thread.
Server issue? New patch issue? Just need to fiddle with my rates?

Office and dust 2 tend to have some choke at the start of each round - especially if the server is full or close to it. Don't know why...those maps tend to be worse than others.
When I notice choke like that I tend to give the server a nice reboot. Seems to help in a lot of cases. Part of the problem may be the outdated admin mod...which will be updated in the next few days.
If notice that the choke is still around (and just as bad) next time you hop on the server let me know.

Sometimes bad routing for your connection causes choke. I used to have a problem where my choke and ping would go up at night but be fine during the day. Luckily the hubs were resolved or a new route was generated by my ISP and the ping and choke subsided.
I have noticed that since we had the long downtime with the server that it seems to be more laggy on occasion. Hopefully the updated BettleFart will take care of that. I was also wondering if it was VAC2 beta causing some of the lag?

We're not using Vac2 yet.
Maybe another week or so. I may add it at the same time (or right after) I upgrade the admin mod.

Was on again last night. At times things were great, other times choke was up around 60. Turned out to be a definite problem on dust2 and compound.

Add me to the "victims of choke" list. I never noticed this problem before last weekends update. Granted I'm on 56k, but I've played on CSGZ this whole time because my choke was almost always under 10. Now, it seems, it will hardly ever hit 0 and I have to stay alive a second or longer after all my shots in order for them to register. Has *anything* been changed on the server in the last week?
Also, I always keep netgraph up, and lately it seems the "In :" statistic is a lot higher than I remember it. Someone was saying on the server last nite that it can be controlled adjusting the different rate settings (cl_cmdrate, rate, cl_update) I haven't changed any of these settings in the last week either, however I've now been toying with them to see if I can somehow cap my "in" packets, but nothing has worked thus far.
EDIT: Found some good info here (http://home.covad.net/~k25125/SteamyThings/NetGraph_Steam.htm) that cleared up a lot of the netgraph confusion for me.

f u black... laf <3 umm i have noticed that there has been some choke on the server lately after the downtime. im not wiz at any of this stuff so i have no clue what to do, just thought i would agree with black and mr that there are occasional bad times on the server.

Just remembered something else that may or may not be a factor.
Late last night we were playing a 3v3 on de_dust, and everything was nice and smooth. Slowly people started to join, and things remained smooth until we hit 5v5. Then suddenly I started getting a ton of choke. Maybe at 10 people something evil starts to happen? Like I said, this may or may not be an actual factor, but it's something I thought I might as well note.

If your getting choke Just check what your cl_updaterate is, the default is 20, but thats not good, you can go up to 100, what i suggest is go as high as you can without getting choke, on the csgz server i can have cl_updaterate 100 and have no choke

Well the main thing is that I wasn't getting choke at all until that screwed up update hit. At the same time though, the server was having some issues, so I don't know what the actual cause was.
I still get choke now, but mainly at odd times when I'm in spec mode. Haven't had problems in several days, so I think the issue is resolved.

I've noticed my choke hasn't been nearly as problematic as it was earlier too. I spent a lot of time tweaking my rates though. It just hasn't been the same since before the update though, just going to take some getting used to.
