Ok, most of you if not all of you will think im completely retarded but i am having problems and difficulties figuring this out.

I spent a little time messing around with the video modes with Counter-Strike: souce and now i am having difficulties even getting it to run. I switched to some video mode and now when i try to run CSS it turns to a black screen that says "unable to display in the video mode" I have looked around and am unable to find a way to switch it back to another video mode.

If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The first step would be to switch back whatever it is that you switched.

yes, thats my whole intention.. but i cant find how to switch it back if i cant even get into the game to get to the options to switch it back..

you can go in to console without actually playing the game... go the the steam icon in the lower right corner and click it then go to play games and shoose CS:S... and then you should be able to choose it.

You could try messing around with your desktop resolution before running the game, but I don't think that has much chance of working. Maybe the two are so different that it just crashes the program, I've done that in the past with 1.6.

Have you changed any acceleration or Direct3D/OpenGL settings outside of source via your video card control panel? Or have you only messed around with the settings inside the game? If you messed with them outside of the game, try to reset them to what they were.

You could also search for the error message you're getting on the STEAM forums; as crappy as they are, they've helped me in the past.

Or you could just reinstall CS:S.

I think you can.

You should try adding these to your CS:S.exe shortcut.

-console -gl -width 1024

-width should be the one that should help, it forces HL2 to run in 1024x768.

If that doesn't work try substituing -gl with -d3d to force it to run in Directx.

If that doesn't work try:

-console -directx 90 -width 1024

you can substitute -directx 90 with 80 for directx 8, and 71 for directx 7.

Add these to your CS:S shortcut so it will bypass what you have in your cfg files.
